El disco puede clasificarse como conceptual, dado que cuenta la historia de un muchacho inválido que solamente tiene a la radio como su entretención, kaos como su vida entera. En 1986 Poison graba su primer álbum, Look What the Cat Dragged In, donde lanzan su primer single, "Cry Tough" en agosto de 1986, pero este nunca alcanzó el éxito de sus siguientes. Después lanzaron los hits "Talk Dirty to me", "I Want Action" y "I Won't Forget You" respectivamente. El álbum llegó a vender más de 4,3 millones de copias en el mundo. En el año 1987 la banda graba el cover de Kiss: "Rock and Roll All Nite", que se usó dentro de la banda sonora de la película Less than Zero. Finalmente se lleva a cabo su tour Look What the Cat Dragged In por los Estados Unidos, Canadá y Japón junto con la banda Ratt. Es de los mejores álbumes debut en ventas de todos los tiempos. Fueron nominados a Mejor Banda Nueva por los MTV Awards de 1987, también participan en el New Year's Eve de MTV el 31 de diciembre de 1987 interpretando "Rock And Roll All Nite" y "I Want Action".
